Reflections from Web Summit 2025 in Lisbon
Our colleague António Leal attended Web Summit 2025 in Lisbon — an event that left a strong impression and offered a clear glimpse into where technology is heading and what it means for our industry.
Picture this: 70,000 professionals filling the Altice Arena and surrounding halls. Founders pitching bold ideas, investors scanning for the next breakthrough, global companies unveiling new tools, and across all conversations, one theme stood out above everything else: Artificial intelligence.
"It was striking to realize that everyone (from technicians to the CEO of The Guardian, and even an astronaut!) was talking about AI as a turning point. The way we communicate with machines has changed forever, and our industry is no exception".
Among the many presentations, António highlights one in particular: the talk by Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm.
“He said that the real AI revolution is in the interface, not in replacing human thought. I found this vision very lucid and inspiring”.
And that idea resonates deeply with our field.
We’re not heading toward a world where AI replaces translators, linguists or writers. We’re moving into a world where the interface between humans and technology becomes smarter, more intuitive, and more collaborative. It’s not about automation — it’s about augmentation.
So where does this leave us?
According to António, one trend will define the year ahead: the rise of integrated multilingual communication solutions. Clients are more informed, more demanding, and expect workflows to be fluid, tech-enabled and human-centred.
To conclude…
“It's exciting to realize that the more we learn, the more aware we are of what we still have to explore. And that's what makes the future so exciting”.
Working in an industry being reshaped in real time is energising. It requires adaptation and continuous learning, but it also opens the door to meaningful, transformative opportunities.
The question isn’t whether our industry will change. It’s how we choose to be part of that change.
